Jim Carson

Jim Carson was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. In the early 70's he was on the faculty of Princeton University and taught undergraduate chemistry. During this time he studied at the Art Student's League in New York after a decision to change his career from science to art, his life-long passion. In 1974 Jim began a career illustrating western book covers and in 1980 he began painting and selling western historical paintings. He was nominated in 1984 for the Spur Award for best western cover. Jim moved his studio to Saluda, North Carolina, in the Carolina Smoky Mountains, to devote full time to his historical painting.
